How to find your saved reels and posts on Instagram

1. Open your profile. Tap your profile picture in the bottom right. On an iPad it is on the left instead.
2. Tap Menu in the top right. The three horizontal lines. Instagram calls it Menu in its own instructions, if you are following along elsewhere.
3. Under "How you use Instagram", tap Saved. You land on a grid of tiles: All posts first, then any collections you have made.
4. Open All posts. Everything you saved, newest first. Reels carry a small play badge, carousels a stacked-squares badge.

Instagram's own help page says this feature "isn't available on computers". That line is out of date. Saved works on desktop web: open instagram.com, go to your profile, and click the Saved tab with the bookmark icon, or go straight to instagram.com/yourusername/saved.

The web version is genuinely more comfortable for digging through a big backlog, because a desktop screen shows far more of the grid at once than a phone does. It is the same grid with the same contents.

Worth its own section because it catches everyone. A feed post has a bookmark icon underneath it that you tap to save. A reel does not. To save a reel you tap Options, the three dots, and then Save.

If you have ever been sure you saved a reel and then failed to find it, this is almost certainly why: the tap never registered as a save because there was nothing there to tap. Instagram's own instruction is exactly this asymmetric, one sentence for posts and a different one for reels.

No, and Instagram is unusually direct about it: only you can see the posts you have saved, and when you save someone's post they are not able to tell that you saved it. On the web the interface says it in as many words, "Only you can see what you've saved."

Two caveats that most articles on this question leave out:

• Creators see a save count, just not who. Saves are one of the interactions Instagram reports in Insights, alongside likes, comments and shares. So a creator knows their post was saved 240 times. They do not and cannot know that one of them was you.
• Collaborative collections are shared on purpose. An ordinary collection is private, and Instagram says a private collection cannot later be shared. A collaborative collection is a different object, created inside a chat: anyone who can see it can add to it, remove things from it, or delete the entire collection, no matter who made it. It cannot be turned private afterwards either. If you add a private account's post to one, only people who follow that account will see it.

A save is a pointer to someone else's post, not your own copy of it. Instagram states that when a creator deletes a post it stops being visible on Instagram and is removed from where it was saved. The related cases follow from the same fact, though Instagram does not document each one:

• The creator deleted the post, or their account.
• The account switched to private and you are not an approved follower. Instagram is explicit that a private account's posts are visible to its followers.
• The account blocked you, or was suspended.

In none of these cases did you do anything wrong, and none of them is recoverable from inside Instagram. Anything you actually care about keeping needs to be copied out, not just bookmarked.

Everything above helps you navigate to the grid. It does not help with the actual problem, which is that once the grid is a few hundred items long, "I know I saved it" and "I can get it back" stop being the same thing.

There is no search box inside Saved. Not over captions, not over creators, not over anything, and no sort or filter either. Your options inside Instagram are scrolling and the collections you sorted by hand at save time.
